Leicester Tigers have been helping students develop their journalistic skills as part of the BBC News School Report Day.

BBC News School Report gives 11-16 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience. More than 33,000 pupils have taken part this year, creating video, audio and text-based news reports.

They include Jack Dickinson, Chris Crick and Harvey Doleman, students at Trent College in Nottingham, who interviewed Geoff Parling on his return to Tigers from Six Nations duty with England.

The Tigers fans chatted to Parling about his matchday preparations, about how he deals with defeats and his thoughts on the British & Irish Lions tour this summer during Tigers’ weekly media conference.

“It’s been really good,” Jack said: “It’s been a great experience and it’s helped us to work on skills outside of the school’s curriculum.

“As a group, we are all Leicester Tigers fans and were inspired by the Six Nations to base our piece on rugby.

“We only had this morning to write it up and most people did theirs on school-based stuff but we decided to do our preparation early and base ours on England rugby.”

The year nine students made their 2pm deadline and have had their work published on the Trent College website. They are hopeful it could feature on the School Report Day section of the BBC News website.

Prime Minister David Cameron, Business Secretary Vince Cable, film director Danny Boyle, world snooker champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, London Mayor Boris Johnson, ex-Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, singer Kate Nash and athlete Paula Radcliffe are among some of the other interviewees who have been involved this year.

Tigers have close links with Trent College, who host the latest in a series of Tigers Rugby Camps for five days from July 22-26.

Tigers Rugby Camps are supported by energy efficiency specialists Mark Group and are open to all players from the under-9 to under-16 age groups, girls and boys. All players will receive top-quality coaching, a Leicester Tigers match ticket, a Tigers Rugby Camp T-shirt, rugby ball, drinks bottle and free membership to the Junior Tigers Club, supported by Crusha.
