Join the queue for a Tigers share

Leicester Tigers are big at the box office, and no bigger than the current run-in to the end of the season.

Rivals at home and abroad are understandably envious of the 24,000 capacity at Welford Road as well as the club’s 14,000 season ticket holders and the 10,000-plus who have already snapped up their places for the 2013/14 season.

And although we’ve all been starved of Welford Road matchdays in recent weeks, the turnstiles have continued to click in support of the Tigers.

After playing in front of a 14,800 full house against Harlequins at The Stoop in February, ticket sales of more than 20,000 were registered for the successive home games against Saracens and Sale during the Six Nations.

Since then, the ‘Sold Out’ signs have been following Tigers around.

Exeter Chiefs announced a 10,000 sell-out for the first game back after the international period, with Tigers fielding nine men who had worn national colours in the Six Nations campaign and skipper Toby Flood kicking the vital points in a 12-9 victory at Sandy Park.

Last week Franklin’s Gardens was declared a 13,479 sell-out for the East Midlands derby and the travelling Tigers were in good voice as the team ran in four tries in a bonus-point win which kept the team in the top two in the Aviva Premiership table.

Now it’s off to Toulon, with 1,500 Tigers among the Stade Felix Mayol crowd for a game which required extra capacity adding to take it over the 15,000 criteria for this stage of the Heineken Cup.

The return home for the Wasps match next weekend is already guaranteed a crowd of 20,000-plus and then Bath is a sell-out in the last away game of the season.

With London Irish to come in Round 22 it is likely another bumper gate will share in matchday at Welford Road.
You can’t get too much of a good thing.
