We must be better in coming weeks - Cockerill

Richard Cockerill hopes defeat at Bath on Saturday is a sharp reminder that Leicester Tigers cannot afford to take their foot off the pedal in the remaining weeks of the season.

Tigers were beaten 27-26 at The Recreation Ground, with Bath skipper Francois Louw scoring the decisive try just four minutes from the end of a pulsating game.

Leicester are still second in the Aviva Premiership table but still require points from the Round 22 match against London Irish to guarantee a home game in the semi-finals.

“We were just one point shy in the end but this will be a kick to make sure we are sharper and more accurate for the games still to come,” said director of rugby Cockerill.

“It is not done and dusted but we need to be better than that.

“We’ve had a lot of intense rugby recently and we come back home for London Irish and we need to be on our game.

“We’re already in a semi-final, but we want it to be at home. We’re in good shape, you get beaten at times, you take it on the chin and take it in the context of the whole season.

Bath played well, they deserved the win, they take it and we move on.”

Tigers face London Irish at Welford Road on Saturday, May 4 (2.30pm) in the final game of the league programme. Tickets are available now.
