Tigers give Spitfires a hand

The RAF Spitfires Sevens squad took an opportunity to train with the Tigers Academy this week midway through their own gruelling fundraising challenge.

Leicester was one of the stops in the RAF team’s charity cycle from Glasgow to Twickenham, raising finds for the RAF Benevolent Fund and Khelo Rugby project for disadvantaged children in India.

Tim Barlow, who made 18 appearances as a Tigers wing in the 1990s, is director of the RAF Spitfires 7s and has been guiding the squad on their way.

After leaving Glasgow, the team called at Penrith in Cumbria and RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire, then Ladybower Reservoir before reaching Leicester on Wednesday. They were joined by Tigers legend Rory Underwood, a former RAF pilot, at a Mayor’s reception in Leicester on Wednesday and then trained with the Tigers Academy squad under the eyes of Academy assistant manager Tosh Askew at Wyggeston Queen Elizabeth I College on Welford Road on Thursday morning.

The remainder of the route included a trip to the Webb Ellis Museum in Rugby before reaching Twickenham this weekend.

You can show support for their charities by texting a donation. Text RAFS77 £x to 70070, inserting any amount between £1 and £10, or see their Just Giving page.
