Tigers players and fans support Walk4Matt

The fifth annual Walk4Matt is well on its way towards Twickenham where it will be joined by an 82,000 sell-out crowd at Saturday's Aviva Premiership Final.

The walkers are on day five of their 110 mile trek along the towpaths of the Grand Union Canal and are due to arrive at HQ on Friday afternoon before being presented to the capacity crowd on Final day.

The walkers have been joined through the week by Tigers favourites past and present. Dan Bowden, Louis Deacon, Rob Hawkins, Craig Newby, Boris Stankovich and Thomas Waldrom were at the Walk4Matt launch event in Rugby while George Chuter, Matt Cornwell, Brett Deacon and Harry Ellis have all joined in along the way.

And many walkers took part in the two day-long walks over the weekend from Rugby to Weedon in Northamptonshire and from Weedon to Cosgrove near Milton Keynes.

Tommy Cawston, of the Matt Hampson Foundation, said: “We had a lot of people join us on the Saturday and Sunday. It was great to have all that support.”

The Sun Inn in Richmond is due to host the end of walk party on Friday night and the walkers will be at the Barmy Arms in Twickenham on Saturday before the Final, and Tigers supporters are being encouraged to join them at both venues.

The walkers have been joined this year by Rob Knapp, who is paddling the distance in a tin bath tub.

“He is going really well,” says Tommy. “The way it was designed meant it was taking on water to start with but after some modifications he is right on track.”

Cycle4Matt reached Welford Road on Sunday and met up with Walk4Matt at Cosgrove in the evening. They were heading to Exeter Chiefs on Thursday.
