Everyone plays their part in Premiership success

Every member of the Leicester Tigers squad and support staff played their part in the club's Aviva Premiership title success this season, says director of rugby Richard Cockerill.

Club captain Geordan Murphy and departing prop Martin Castrogiovanni lifted the trophy at Twickenham after Saturday’s victory, with Cockerill paying tribute to the contribution from everyone at the club.

“I feel a bit of a fraud sometimes because I’m the one that dos the interviews after every game,” said Cockerill. “But success is built on the contribution of so many people – the coaches, the players, the conditioning team, the medical team, all the backroom staff and also the supporters.

“We work hard, we’ve got good coaches, good players, a good infrastructure from top to bottom. The expectation is huge every season but we know that and we have to deal with it every week of the season.

“So much goes into this team. I couldn’t do what I do without the other coaches and the players and the support staff.
“I’m delighted for Matt O’Connor, for Paul Burke, Richard Blaze, for all the players and staff. Everyone works so hard and their input is very important.

“We have got good players and they all work very hard every week of the season. Sometimes you get beaten, that happens, but every week we try to come back.

“Everyone has a part to play. We went to Worcester Warriors on a Friday night in the Six Nations without many of our internationals and those four points were massive – they are just as important as any other in the season.

“There are some very good players who played an important part this season who weren’t involved in the Final, but they understand the importance of their contribution and of everyone stepping up when they need to, and it works very well for us.”
