Summer rugby camps filling up fast

Figure image
Places on Leicester Tigers Rugby Camps this summer are filling up fast and players are being encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.

Already the camps at Lichfield (July 29-August2) and Market Rasen (August 12-16) rugby clubs, and the residential camp at Bishop Burton College near Beverley (August 5-9) are close to selling out.

A massive summer kicks off at Syston RFC (July 15-19) with rugby camps being held right across the Tigers region through the holidays as well as at Jersey RFC (July 22-26) and Guernsey RFC (August 27-30).

Supported by energy efficiency experts Mark Group, our rugby camps give players who are playing contact rugby in next seasons 2012/14 under-9s to under-16s age groups the chance to experience top-quality rugby coaching in a professional environment.

All coaching is provided by our Tigers community coaching team alongside some of Tigers top senior academy coaches and players past and present, including former Tigers captain and coach Ian ‘Dosser’ Smith, ex hooker Troy Thacker and two-time Heineken Cup winner Glenn Gelderbloom. They will be passing on some of the tips that have taken Tigers to a record tenth English title this season.

The courses run closely to the Tigers Academy and youth rugby programme. Each player will also receive a match ticket to an allocated home game, a hot lunch (except at Syston RFC and Melbourne RFC) a Tigers Rugby Camp T-shirt, rugby ball and drinks bottle and free membership to the Junior Tigers Club.

There is also a series of tag rugby courses for under-sevens and under-eights players.

The residential rugby camp provides an outstanding opportunity for young and ambitious players who want to develop their game further and spend a week as an elite rugby player.

Tigers coaches, working alongside the Academy, run a full week of coaching focussed on skill, game understanding and long-term athlete development.

The college’s Centre for Sport & Fitness is the focal point of their Sports Village which will host the Rugby Camp and accommodate the players. Facilities include a state-of-the-art fitness suite, 4G artificial turf pitch and outdoor grass pitches and sports hall.

During the camp, which is for players in under-13s to under-18s age groups, players can expect to be pushed to the limit and challenged at every opportunity. Tigers coaches will help players progress and maximise their potential.

It is a great opportunity for to see what it would be like to spend a week as an elite player in the Tigers Academy.

Players will be continually assessed and evaluated with player feedback provided at the end of the week.
