Youngs starts for Lions tourists

Figure image
Ben Youngs starts for the British & Irish Lions against the Brumbies in their final tour fixture before the start of the Test series against Australia.

Leicester Tigers scrum-half Youngs, who came off the bench against the Waratahs on Saturday, forms a half-back partnership with Stuart Hogg. Tigers Academy graduate Billy Twelvetrees, now at Gloucester, who was a recent call-up to the squad, starts at centre.

Tigers forwards Dan Cole and Geoff Parling have been named on the bench for Tuesday’s game in Canberra (kick-off 10.40am BST). Ulster and Ireland hooker Rory Best will captain the side.

In a surprise move, the Lions have named Wales international Shane Williams, who now plays for Mitsubishi Dynaboars in Japan, on the wing. He joins recent call ups to the squad Twelvetrees, Brad Barritt and Christian Wade in the back line.

The replacements have been called up because of on-going injury worries surrounding Tommy Bowe (broken hand), George North (tight hamstring) and Manu Tuilagi (shoulder).

In addition, Jamie Roberts limped out of the win over the Waratahs with a right leg injury that is being scanned today to try to discover what is wrong.
