Leicester Tigers will kick off the new Aviva Premiership season with a home game against Worcester Warriors at Welford Road on Sunday, September 8 (2pm).

The Aviva Premiership fixture launch today has revealed a home start to the season in the first game since Tigers clinched a record 10th league title with a Twickenham victory in May.

Tigers supporters will be able to give a welcome home for the defending champions as they provide the first opposition for new Warriors director of rugby Dean Ryan.

Three of the opening five fixtures are on home soil, Tigers welcoming newly-promoted Newcastle Falcons – and Dean Richards and John Wells – in Round 3 and then the first East Midlands derby of the season against Northampton Saints on October 5.

Today’s fixture launch at BT Tower in London came ahead of a first season in partnership with the league’s new broadcasting partners BT Sport and included details for the televised fixtures and kick-off times for the opening seven rounds.

After hosting Worcester, Tigers go to old rivals Bath in Round 2 in a fixture which celebrates the 100th anniversary of games between the two sides and are at Exeter Chiefs in Round 4.

The Northampton game is the final league fixture before the opening two rounds of the Heineken Cup.

Among the other highlights of the season are the back-to-back home games in the Christmas period with Tigers welcoming Sale Sharks (December 28) and Bath Rugby (January 4) to Welford Road following a first-ever trip to Saracens’ Allianz Park on the weekend of December 21.

The run-in to the end of the campaign includes trips to Northampton in March and Harlequins in April before a home game on the last weekend of the regular season against Saracens.

Match tickets are scheduled to be released for sale through the Tiger ticket office later this month. Sales will be open to season ticket holders requiring extra tickets and for members from July 15.

Match tickets sales to all other supporters will commence on July 22.
