Warriors will be tough first up, says Allen

Anthony Allen says Worcester Warriors will be one of teams to watch when the new Aviva Premiership season kicks-off.

Tigers begin the defence of their Aviva Premiership title against the Warriors at Welford Road on Sunday, September 8 (kick-off 2pm) before travelling to Bath Rugby for their first away game in Round 2.

And Allen expects Dean Ryan, Worcester’s new director of rugby, to have a huge impact at Sixways.

“They will be dark horses,” says Allen, who played under Ryan at Gloucester Rugby. “They will be a well organised, structured and disciplined outfit and I think they will be a team to watch out for.

“It’s always nice to have the first game at home but we know it will be a tough start.”

Allen says there is a good vibe in the Tigers squad as they continue their pre-season preparations on the back of last season’s title success.

“It was frustrating coming back having not got over the final hurdle in the last couple of Finals,” says Allen, who was speaking to Talking Rugby at the launch of the Aviva Premiership fixtures for next season at BT Tower in London.

“We did it last year and, with the fresh faces coming in, everyone is very positive and wants to crack on. It’s a good vibe to have.”
