Salvi can't wait for the new season

Julian Salvi says he is already itching for the new Aviva Premiership season to start.

The Leicester Tigers squad are back in pre-season training, building up to the pre-season fixture at home to 2012 Heineken Cup runners-up Ulster Rugby on Saturday, July 31 and the big Aviva Premiership kick-off against Worcester Warriors at Welford Road on Sunday, September 8.

And Salvi is already looking forward to getting back into action.

He said: “We had four weeks off, which was good for the body. The body feels good and raring to go.

“All you want to do is play rugby and I can’t wait to go back out and play that first game again.”

Salvi says Tigers supporters can be proud of the performances of the club’s British & Irish Lions contingent during their summer tour to Australia.

Dan Cole, Tom Croft, Geoff Parling, Manu Tuilagi, Ben Youngs and Tom Youngs all played a part in the Test series as the Lions secured a 2-1 series victory Down Under.

Salvi, last season’s Tigers Supporters’ Player of the Year, said: “It’s been a massive season for all of those guys.

“They went really well. They put their hands up, played decent rugby and did the Lions proud. As Tigers supporters we have to be proud of the fact that we have six players in the squad and they won the series and did really well for us.”
