Craig Newby has been helping young players improve their game on the Tigers Rugby Camp at Jersey RFC.

Newby was the lead coach this week at Jersey, who host Tigers in a pre-season fixture on Saturday, August 24.

The former Tigers and All Blacks back rower has been working with the players on their techniques and skills, while some of the younger players on the camp have been playing the tag form of the game.

It is the second week of this Tigers’ summer Rugby Camps, with the club’s coaches also coaching at Nottingham’s Trent College.

Academy products Harry Rudkin and George Catchpole visit the Trent College camp during the week for a Q&A and to talk about life at Tigers.

There is a packed week of Tigers Rugby Camps next week with camps at Stamford School and Diss, Lichfield and Swaffham rugby clubs.

New arrival Ryan Lamb and back rower Brett Deacon will visit Stamford School for a Q&A while full-back Mathew Tait and Academy product Harry Thacker are due to drop in at Lichfield. Fraser Balmain, last season’s Players’ Young Player of the Year is due with Lucas Guillaume at Diss and Academy products Tom Price and Javiah Pohe will visit the Swaffham camp.

Newby will coach later in the summer at the Tigers Rugby Camps at North Walsham RFC (August 20) Melbourne RFC (August 21) and Market Harborough RFC (August 22) and the residential camp at Bishop Burton (which runs from August 5-9).

Places are still available on all Tigers Rugby Camps, which are supported by energy efficiency experts Mark Group. Click here to find a camp near you and to book a place.

They give players who are playing contact rugby in next season’s under-9s to under-16s age groups the chance to experience top-quality rugby coaching in a professional environment. There is also a series of tag rugby camps for under-sevens and under-eights players.

All coaching is provided by our Tigers community coaching team alongside some of Tigers top senior academy coaches and players past and present, including former captain and coach Ian ‘Dosser’ Smith, ex hooker Troy Thacker and two-time Heineken Cup winner Glenn Gelderbloom. They will be passing on some of the tips that have taken Tigers to a record tenth English title this season.

The camps run closely to the Tigers Academy and youth rugby programme. Each player will also receive a match ticket to an allocated home game, a hot lunch (except Melbourne RFC) a Tigers Rugby Camp T-shirt, rugby ball and drinks bottle and free membership to the Junior Tigers Club.

Alternatively, phone the Tigers ticket office on 0844 856 1880 (option 2). The office is open 8.30am-5pm every weekday, until 8pm Wednesdays and 9am-5pm Saturdays.
