Leicester Tigers have named their squad ahead of the JP Morgan Premiership Rugby Sevens at Franklin's Gardens on Friday night.

Tigers face Sale Sharks, Newcastle Falcons and hosts Northampton Saints in the second pool of the competition. The action kicks-off at 7.15pm.

The Tigers squad includes Harry Wells and Henry Purdy, who were members of the England Under-20s squad that won the Junior World Championship in the summer and last season’s U20s Six Nations.

Wells, who can play in the second and back rows, made his Tigers debut as a replacement in the LV= Cup clash with London Wasps last season and started the following week’s game at the Scarlets while wing Purdy made his senior debut in last season’s cup game at Saracens.

Tigers will be captained by Scotland U20s scrum-half Scott Steele, who is another member of the squad who played in the Junior World Championship. Steele made his Tigers debut as a replacement in the Aviva Premiership game against Newcastle at Welford Road in February 2012 and came off the bench in that season’s LV= Cup semi-final at The Rec.

Trialist Blaine Scully has been capped 11 times by USA and was part of their squad at the 2011 World Cup in New Zealand. He started in the Pool C games against Australia and Ireland, when he lined up opposite Geordan Murphy, and came off the bench against Russia and Italy. He has also played in a number of IRB 7s tournaments and for the USA in the Churchill Cup.

The Tigers squad includes further first-team experience through back rower Lucas Guillaume, who made his Tigers debut against Saracens in last season’s LV= Cup.

Back rower Michael Noone, who scored two tries in three LV= Cup appearances last season, was initially named in the squad but withdrew through injury. He was replaced by 17-year-old Academy winger/full-back David Williams.

Geordan Murphy, Tigers assistant coach, said: "We have some exciting young talent in the squad and the JP Morgan Premiership Rugby Sevens will be a good test for them.

“It is an opportunity for us to see how well they handle the pressure of an environment like Franklin’s Gardens. It’s also a chance for them to express themselves on a big stage and show what they can do ahead of the season.”
