New boy Briggs ready for run out

Summer signing Neil Briggs says he cannot wait for his first game in a Leicester Tigers shirt to get under way in Geneva this evening.

Former Sale Sharks and London Welsh hooker Briggs is in line to make his first appearance for the club in the Legion Geneva Challenge against Montpellier in Switzerland.

It is a first step in playing terms, though Briggs has come through a tough summer programme already after joining the club at the end of last season.

"I missed the end of last season with injury and I had shoulder surgery so it seems like it has been a long pre-season already," said Briggs from the team's pre-match base near Lake Geneva.

"It has been tough, it has been full-on as you would expect here, but now all the players just want to get that first game under their belt. As a new player you just want to get out there and show the other lads what you can do."

Briggs has experience of games against Montpellier both in Europe with Sale and domestically in his spell in France with Bourgoin, and he anticipates a very tough test.

"It's a big game to start our pre-season," he said. "Montpellier start their own league season against Toulon next week and they have a verz good squad so we know it will be tough.

"But it's great to get to that first game and to play somewhere new. It's always a good experience to play in a new environment, it looks like a nice stadium and we're all looking forward to getting into the game."

Kick-off this evening at the Stade de la Praille is a 8.30pm local time, 7.30pm UK time.
