Newby will be T20 dangerman - Hamilton

Captain Scott Hamilton has picked out former Leicester Tigers teammate Craig Newby as a dangerman ahead of Sunday's T20 cricket match at Grace Road.

Hamilton captains a Tigers XI against a combined Matt Hampson Foundation and Lord’s Taverners XI at the home of Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

The Tigers team is set to include England internationals Toby Flood and Manu Tuilagi while former Tigers stars Newby, Harry Ellis and Freddie Tuilagi are set to line up for the Hambo team.

Newby hit a century for Tigers in a charity fixture a couple of seasons ago and Hamilton says he will have to come up with a plan for the ex All Black back rower.

“Newbs will be a dangerman,” says Hamilton. “I’ll try to come up with something for him. He hits a big ball – I’ve seen him clear a couple of clubhouses before – but he doesn’t quite run the ones and twos like he used to!

“Hopefully Toby Flood will be there and Manu Tuilagi hits a big ball so we’ll slide him in to scare the opposition. We’ve got a pretty good side. We’ll certainly back ourselves!

“Hopefully the weather will be like it’s been the last few weeks. We have had good crowds in the past and the boys will be around signing autographs and having photos. It will be a good day and hopefully we can raise some money for good causes.”

Former Leicestershire and England wicketkeeper Paul Nixon will captain the Matt Hampson Foundation and Lord's Taverners XI.

Raising money for the Matt Hampson Foundation and the Lord's Taverners, it promises to be a great day for the whole family. The game is due to begin at 2pm.

The day starts at 10am with an under-10s Kwik Cricket competition with BBC cricket correspondent Jonathan Agnew set to present the prizes.

Tickets are £10 adults and free for under-16s. Simply pay on the day or click here to book your tickets.
