Briggs delighted at Welford Road welcome

After years of running out at Welford Road in opposition to Leicester Tigers, Neil Briggs says he was delighted to have the home support on his side in Saturday's game against Ulster.

Briggs, who has played at Welford Road for Sale Sharks and London Welsh, made his first home appearance in the 30-10 victory to end Tigers’ pre-season campaign.

And the England Saxons hooker was delighted to wear a Tigers shirt in front of a remarkable 17,617 crowd.

Neil Briggs: “It was nice to get out wearing a Tigers shirt at Welford Road. I have been here quite a lot in the past and it’s quite nice to have everyone cheering you!

“I was just happy to get on. It took me a while to settle into it but then in the second-half and it was a lot better.

“The ambition was there to play, which is sometimes a bit tough for the fatties to get round but we have been working hard on the watt bike and with the strength and conditioning staff.”

He added: “It’s early on and we have a lot to work on but there were some good signs.

“Hopefully, going into Worcester, we can iron out a few things and can put in a performance.”

Tigers are back at Welford Road this Sunday when they begin the defence of their Aviva Premiership title against Worcester Warriors (2pm).

And Briggs is expecting a tough test with which to kick-off the season.

“Worcester have a new coach, a new team and we know it’s going to be tough but we’ll have a big week this week and be ready,” says Briggs.

The Worcester game is included in the season ticket and match tickets are available now from the Welford Road ticket office, by calling 0844 856 1880 and online by clicking here

The day begins at 10am with Tigers in the Park. Based in Nelson Mandela Park opposite the stadium, there will be lots of attractions and activities in the build-up to kick-off including live music from main stage headliners Funk Soul Brother and The Atlantics and a fun zone featuring jungle agility run and bungee run inflatable.

Entry to Tigers in the Park is free. More information on Tigers in the Park is available here.
