More to come says man of the match Mele

Man of the Match David Mele says Leicester Tigers have work to do if they are to build on the win over Worcester Warriors on the trip to Bath on Saturday.

Scrum-half Mele, making his Aviva Premiership debut after a summer switch from Perpignan, collected the sponsors’ bottle of champagne after an all-action display against Warriors and claimed his first try in Tigers colours.

He was understandably delighted to get off to a winning start, but insisted there is plenty of work to do for the Tigers squad after a 32-15 victory at Welford Road.

“We made a lot of mistakes but the most important thing is the five points in the end,” said Mele.

“We are going to have to work if we want to do something at Bath next week.

“Worcester carried the ball better in the second half and we missed too many tackles. But it is tough. When you see the score is 18-3 or 25-3 you think of the bonus point and that is a problem. You have to stay focused on the game and the win.

“Worcester came back at us, they carried the ball well in the second half and they scored two good tries. But we eventually got the fourth try, we’ll take the five points and take the result.”

After tries in successive pre-season fixtures against Jersey and Ulster, Mele latched on to a Tigers attack on the stroke of half-time to collect a Jordan Crane offload and score under the posts in his English league debut.

“I really enjoyed my first game and I enjoy Leicester,” he said. “All the players have been very good to me.

“The game here is very different to France but I am enjoying it. There is a lot of tempo in the game and I like that.”
