French referees for Euro ties

French officials will take charge of the opening two rounds of Leicester Tigers' fixtures in this season's Heineken Cup.

Tournament organisers ERC have announced that Romain Poite will referee the Round 1 match against Ulster in Belfast on October 11, with Pascal Gauzère officiating in the home game against Benetton Treviso a week later.

ERC have confirmed the 2013/14 European club rugby tournaments will adhere to current global law trials for the scrum engagement sequence and for the extended powers of the Television Match Official.

The trials include the new scrum sequence of 'Crouch-Bind-Set' during which the referee will decide when the opposing packs are stable before saying: 'Yes 9', as a prompt to the scrum-half to put the ball in.

The referee will also be able to consult with the TMO to review up to two phases (rucks or mauls) before the ball is grounded in the act of scoring.

The TMO can also be called on by the referee to advise on incidents of possible foul play anywhere in the playing enclosure.
