The Leicester Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team will be in action this weekend in a six-team competition at the city's De Montfort University.

It is a big weekend for the Tigers team with sides from across the UK heading to the Queen Elizabeth II Leisure Centre to compete at the Super Series event.

Tigers kick-off two-days of Division Two competition against the West Country Hawks at 9am on Saturday. They will face the Cardiff Pirates, the Caledonia Crushers and two teams from the Solent Sharks over the remainder of the weekend.

All of the teams will play against each other over Saturday and Sunday but, with the two courts in the main sports hall in use simultaneously, opportunities for spectators to watch will be limited.

However, captain James Price says supporters will be able to see the Tigers team in action when they face the Solent Sharks at 1pm on Saturday.

“There will only be one court going for that game so there should be plenty of room for spectators,” said Price. “It will be free entry and we would love to see some Tigers fans coming along.”

The Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Team were formally introduced to supporters at half-time of Saturday’s Aviva Premiership clash with Northampton Saints when they were welcomed onto the pitch by a capacity Welford Road crowd.

“It was absolutely fantastic,” Price said: “Rob, our coach, has been to three Paralympics and both of us were really humbled to be out on the pitch and have such a fantastic reception.”
