Flood says Tigers must improve

Toby Flood did not pull any punches when it came to assessing the Leicester Tigers performance in Friday's bonus-point win over Benetton Treviso.

“Credit to Treviso for making a dogfight of it, but we made a lot of errors again,” said the Leicester Tigers captain after a 34-3 victory at Welford Road.

“They made it difficult for us and we made it hard work for ourselves. There is work to do to tidy up all those errors and it was a poor performance on the whole.”

Flood made his 100th appearance for Tigers in Friday’s Heineken Cup match, five years after making his debut for the club.

Although critical of the performance which meant Tigers needed an 80th-minute try from Adam Thompstone to secure the bonus-point win, Flood said the points did put the team in a decent position after the opening two rounds of European competition.

“We’ve taken six points and, although we would have liked more at Ravenhill last week, it is a tough place to go and we are in a decent position,” he said.

“It was a disappointing match in some respects but, when the dust settles, we’ll be pleased we’ve got the five points. If we do go on to qualify from the pool we’ll think they were five really important points, but at the moment there is a changing room of very disappointed players.

“We’ll definitely have to raise our game. We’ve just been getting by and that is not acceptable.”

Tigers resume the European campaign with back-to-back games against Montpellier, starting with the home game on Sunday, December 8 (3pm). Match tickets are available now. All Heineken Cup fixtures in the pool stages of the competition are included in Tigers season tickets.
