Parling misses opening autumn Test

Geoff Parling has been ruled out of England's first Test of the autumn, against Australia at Twickenham on Saturday.

The Leicester Tigers second row suffered a mild concussion during a contact session with the England squad yesterday afternoon and will go through the recommended protocol.

Head coach Stuart Lancaster says Parling will be unavailable for Saturday’s game but will stay in camp with a view to returning to training next week.

Club colleagues Dan Cole, Toby Flood, and Ben and Tom Youngs have been retained in the squad preparing for Saturday’s QBE International.

Lancaster said: “We have had two good days of training at Pennyhill Park and, added to last week in Leeds, we are in good form and looking forward to the game.”

Saturday’s game is a 2.30pm kick-off. Welford Road will be open from 2pm to allow supporters to watch live coverage ahead of kick-off in the Tigers match against Harlequins at 5.30pm.
