Youngs braced for set-piece battle

Tom Youngs is braced for another big set-piece battle when England meet Argentina at Twickenham this Saturday.

Leicester Tigers hooker Youngs played his part at HQ on Saturday as England kicked off th international season with a 20-13 victory over Australia.

He started the clash in the front row alongside Tigers teammate Dan Cole with Ben Youngs and Toby Flood making an impact from the bench, at centre in Flood’s case.

Now England are focusing on Saturday’s game against Argentina and, for Youngs and Cole, a likely front row meeting with Tigers teammate Marcos Ayerza.

“It’s another massive game for us and one we would love to win,” said Youngs. “They’re a big, tough scrummaging side and we’ll be rubbing our hands and looking forward to it.”

England showed their character in victory over Australia, coming back from 13-6 down at half-time to seal their win through tries for Chris Robshaw and Owen Farrell.

And Youngs, who won his 10th England cap, said: “We were really chuffed with the result. There are things we need to work on but it’s a great way to start the international season.

“It was a bit tense at times but we came through, built the pressure and built the momentum and got our rewards.”

Meanwhile, head coach Stuart Lancaster has called Bath back Anthony Watson into the England camp ahead of the QBE International against Argentina at Twickenham Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

Lancaster said: “We are bringing Anthony Watson into camp because we want to take a look at him in the same way that we have done in the past with others outside the Senior or Saxons squads such as Joe Launchbury.

"Anthony is a member of the Under-20s squad and is playing well for Bath so this is a good opportunity to give him a taste of this environment.”
