Dee's thank you for Welford Road welcome

Dee Clark thanked Leicester Tigers fans for their warm welcome to Welford Road after she ran a lap of the pitch as part of her epic fundraising challenge.

Dee is taking on a 10km run in each of the 69 cities in the UK in the space of 69 weeks. It is a challenge she has organised to raise money to support four-year-old Luca Williams who lost both his legs to meningitis in January 2012.

Her challenge started last September in Sheffield and ends on December 21 in her home city of Newport, South Wales. She is hoping to raise £69,000 to help buy the equipment little Luca will need through his life.

She completed the Leicester leg on the morning of the Aviva Premiership match against Quins before being presented to a 24,000 capacity crowd at half-time during a lap of the pitch with her 11-year-old niece Jorja.

“My sister and brother-in-law, Kerry and Paul Howard, are Leicester fans and were season-ticket holders for many years and the response I got from the crowd was amazing,” said Dee, who has juggled her challenge with a full-time job as a GP.

“The fans were awesome and I’m very grateful. Some of them have donated on my JustGiving site and said it put the result into perspective.”

Dee says she could not run and "never really liked" running before embarking on her challenge.

“I still don't particularly like running,” she says. “At the time I decided to do it there were 66 cities then The Queen named three more in her Jubilee year!

“Every week I say that I don’t feel like running but every time I think of Luca and that’s the motivation for me.”
