Final festival in Prima Tiger Cup at Mellish

The last festival in the qualifying stages of the biggest-ever Prima Tiger Cup is hosted at Mellish Rugby Club this Sunday.

The Prima Tiger Cup, sponsored by Prima Solutions of Loughborough, is an under-10s tournament run by the Leicester Tigers and offering teams the opportunity to play in the later stages at the club’s Welford Road stadium.

After four successful festivals in Norfolk, Suffolk, Tamworth in Staffordshire and Lutterworth in Leicetershire, a total of 53 teams have already played in the Prima Tiger Cup this season and another 17 have signed up to play this weekend.

The opening festival saw teams from Holt and North Walsham come through as winners, and they will be joined in the knockout rounds by Tamworth and Wolverhampton from the second festival, Leicestershire clubs Market Harborough, Ashby, Hinckley and Oadby Wyggestonians, and last Sunday’s winners Braintree and Haywards Heath who came through the fourth festival at Newmarket RFC.

The clubs playing this weekend are Bakewell, Belper, Cleethorpes, Goole, Kesteven, Lincoln, Market Rasen, Matlock, Melbourne, Mellish, Nottingham Boots Corsairs, Nuneaton, Scunthorpe, Sleaford, Southwell, Trentham and West Bridgford.

The knockout rounds at Welford Road begin at Tigers’ next home game, against London Irish on November 23, with a second set of qualifiers playing ahead of kick-in the European match against Montpellier on Sunday, December 8.
