It was a successful weekend for the Leicester Tigers players involved in autumn international action.

Marcos Ayerza and Pablo Matera were part of the Argentina squad which recorded a 19-14 victory over Italy, while Blaine Scully helped the USA Eagles to a 28-7 win against Russia.

Ayerza started Saturday’s game against the Azzurri, lining up against former Tigers teammate Martin Castrogiovanni in the Italy front row, while Matera was named on the bench.

Winger Juan Imhoff scored a 20th-minute try for the Pumas and Nicolas Sanchez kicked 14 points to secure the victory in heavy rain at the Stadium Olimpico in Rome. Italy replied through Michele Campagnaro’s try on his first international start and 11 points from Tommaso Allan, who also made his first start.

For Argentina, who included former Tigers backs Horacio Agulla and Lucas Amorosino in their starting XV, it was their second win of the year

Blaine Scully, meanwhile, played his part in USA Eagles 28-7 victory over Russia, their second successive win after victory over Georgia last week.

Saracens full-back Chris Wyles opened the scoring with a try on his home ground before Northampton forward Samu manoa added a second. Adam Siddall converted and added a penalty before Andrey Garbuzov’s converted try brought Russia back into the game.

But fly-half Siddall added two more penalties before converting Cameron Dolan’s late try to conclude the scoring.
