Leicester Tigers fans will be familiar with Chuter’s amusing musings in his programme column, a popular feature of matchdays at Welford Road.
The Tigers and England hooker shared his comedic talent with a new audience at Y Theatre in Leicester at a charity fundraiser in aid of Big Difference Company.
Chuter and seven other rookie comedians took part in the Leicestershire Stand-Up Challenge, an open-mic which was part of the 21st birthday celebrations for Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival.
The Tigers legend was joined in the audience by some of his Tigers teammates, including Manu Tuilagi, Jordan Crane and Ed Slater. He finished second behind Kara Smith, from the Leicester Mercury newspaper.
“I quite enjoyed it,” said Chuter. “It was a bit different and good fun. I got a few laughs and a few claps and that will do me!
“A few of lads turned up and there were a couple of rugby fans in the crowd I spoke to but it was a mixed audience. I had that in mind and had a bit more generic material – I was conscious of not doing too much rugby in case it put people off. Hopefully I got the balance right.
“I couldn’t see the lads but I could hear Richard Blaze! He has a distinct laugh!”
