Tigers help make young fan's Christmas wish

Leicester Tigers helped make a Christmas wish come true for young fan Daniel Page when he was a matchday mascot for the Aviva Premiership clash with Sale Sharks.

The Tigers-mad 11-year-old joined Louis Deacon in leading out the team in front of a sell-out 24,000 crowd at Welford Road.

Daniel had written to Welford Road from his home in Holland telling the club of his Christmas wishes, which included a place on a Tigers Rugby Camp after taking part in last year’s at the British School in the Netherlands.

“Dear Father Christmas at Tigers,” he wrote. “On my wish-list for Christmas is attending another Tigers Rugby Camp next year in the summer, a winning Lottery ticket so that I can visit every Tigers match and fan stuff like a mug, scarf, a beany and a Tigers Jacket. Thank you! Daniel Page.”

Daniel flew over from Holland with his parents Stephen and Hannie for the game, which Tigers won 30-23. They were joined by several other rugby-loving families from Holland who had travelled over to the UK for the Christmas holidays.

And after running out with the team, Daniel was surprised with an invitation back onto the pitch at half time when he was presented with a Christmas present by Anthony Allen and club mascot Welford.

The present was made up of a range of Tigers goodies, including a place on the Rugby Camp at the British School in the Netherlands during the October half-term. Click here to watch our LTTV video of Daniel's day.

Daniel said: “It was amazing, I was excited to be a mascot at Tigers and I couldn’t wait to open the present.”

His dad Stephen added: “It was brilliant, such a great day. We never imagined it would happen and at such a big club.

“It was our first game, being from Holland, but Daniel starting watching the Tigers on TV and has been a fan ever since. I just want to thank everyone at Tigers for such amazing generosity and making it an amazing day for all of us, especially Daniel.”

Tigers centre Allen said: “It was great to be able to help fulfil Daniel’s Christmas wish. We are glad he had a great time the first time he went on a Tigers Rugby Camp and we look forward to seeing him again.”
