Tigers top social media table

Leicester Tigers have been recognised as the Aviva Premiership's leading club on social media in a new study.

Tigers finished top of the Premiership table in the first-ever Sport Social Media Index, which recognised the club’s content and interaction on social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram and Vine and on the club blog.

It is the latest accolade for Tigers on social media. Tigers are the only rugby club to feature in the Social Brands 100, retaining their spot in the influential study for the last two years.

The Sport Social Media Index ranks 148 professional rugby, football and cricket teams, with Tigers finishing 12th overall. It was topped by Premier League football team Tottenham Hotspur.

The index was produced by PR and social media agency Umpf with partners William Hill. It was four months in the making and is a benchmark of social media success among professional British sports teams.

The table was compiled by measuring the performance of each team based not just on an algorithm, but research from a team of nine people who looked at social networks, as well as a panel of four judges who presided over the results.
