Tigers fan through to young reporter final

Leicester Tigers fan Jasper Reid hopes he has taken a step on the road towards becoming a sports journalist after reaching the final of the LV= Young Reporter competition.

His match report from Tigers’ victory over Ospreys was the winning entry from the opening weekend of this season’s LV= Cup, putting him in contention to win the overall competition.

Jasper, who has been a Tigers supporter since he was 10, caught the eye of competition organisers with his “concise and descriptive report”.

The 16-year-old, who has secured work experience for his local paper and written match reports for his school's first XV, said: “"I am delighted to be the winner of Round 1 as it indicates that I do have some flair for writing and that I could hope to pursue a career in sports journalism.

"To be in the final four of the competition is an exciting prospect given the fantastic prize on offer.

“The opportunity to interview Lewis Moody would be a dream come true. His achievements throughout his career speak for themselves. To interview a true legend of the game, who for so long remained at the top of the domestic and international game would be an incredible experience.”

For the second successive season LV=, the title sponsors of the LV= Cup, are searching for the next generation of young rugby writers.

The LV= Young Reporter Competition invites children aged under 16 to submit a 200 word report on any LV= Cup pool fixture online. The competition returns this weekend when the LV= Cup takes centre stage with reporters asked to file their copy on the RFU website by clicking here.

A winner is selected in each of the four LV= Cup pool rounds, from which the overall winner will be chosen. Jasper’s was the winning entry from Round 1 while Harlequins fan Ellie Taylor, 15, was the winner in Round 2.

The 2013/14 LV= Young Reporter will receive four VIP tickets to the LV= Cup Final and an opportunity to interview Tigers and England legend Lewis Moody, an LV= ambassador. They will also win the chance to attend the post-Final press conference and write a match report of the game, which will be published on rfu.com, lv.com and premiershiprugby.com.

And two runners up will also receive four tickets each to the final. All winners must be accompanied by an adult over the age of 18.

Jasper and Ellie will be joined by two more winners from rounds three and four in the final shortlist before the 2013/14 LV= Young Reporter. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, March 11, the week of the LV= Cup Final, which takes place at Exeter’s Sandy Park on March 16.

Round 3 entries must be received by 5pm on Tuesday, January 28 and Round 4 entries must be received by 5pm on Tuesday, February 4.
