Police operation gets Tigers backing

Leicestershire Police's Operation Tiger has been backed by the Leicester Tigers during the two weeks of intensive activity.

Leicestershire Police officers have been out across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland targeting those causing most harm to communities.

Through operations and warrants, officers have arrested a number of prolific offenders and ensured that areas suffering from crime are protected by increased patrols.

During Operation Tiger, the Force pulls together more resources than is usually possible and hits areas being targeted the most in an attempt to drive down crime.

Leicester Tigers offered to support the Force with tackling crime and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.

Tigers prop Boris Stankovich accompanied Chief Constable Simon Cole to Beaumont Leys and Hinckley LPU to see how officers are working. He also accompanied officers on an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) operation that took place yesterday.

Stankovich said: “It really opened my eyes to see exactly what officers are facing every day. I had no idea the range of things they cover. They do a really great job making sure that all those living in the city and counties are protected.”

Chief Constable Simon Cole said: “We really appreciate having support from one of Leicestershire’s most successful sporting teams. Our operation obviously shares the Tiger’s name, but our goals are also very similar. We’re both ultimately hunting for success in our fields.”
