Blaine Scully and the USA Eagles head home for the second leg of their Rugby World Cup play-off against Uruguay next weekend with honours even after a 27-27 draw in Montevideo on Saturday.

Leicester Tigers wing Scully gained his 16th Test cap for the Eagles as they came from 19-6 down in the first half to lead with three second-half tries but then saw their hosts clinch a late levelling score.

Tries came from hooker Phil Thiel, Northampton Saints forward Samu Manoa and Saracens full-back Wyles, with centre Folau Niua kicking three penalties and a conversion.

The Eagles had to survive a scare with 14 men when Uruguay scored a late try, confirmed by the television match official, but missed a potential match-winning conversion from a tight angle.

The second leg is next Saturday at Fifth Third Bank Stadium at Kennesaw State University, Atlanta. Victory would guarantee a place in the IRB Rugby World Cup 2015 in England, while a defeat would push them into the Repechage play-off.
