Away win is good for us - Cockerill

Leicester Tigers begin their preparations today for the Heineken Cup quarter-final boosted by a sixth successive league win after a 22-16 verdict at Northampton on Saturday.

A try from Anthony Allen and 17 points from fly-half Owen Williams secured victory at Franklin’s Gardens and, after Bath’s defeat at Sale on Friday, moved the defending champions into third place in the Aviva Premiership table.

“It’s a good win and we played well,” said director of rugby Richard Cockerill.

“Saints are a good side who have been in good form this season, and to come and be the first team to win here in the league all season is good for us.

“I was quite critical of the players this week after the win over Exeter, wanting to keep their feet on the ground. And backing-up last week’s win was important.

“Owen’s goal-kicking under pressure was outstanding and he ran himself to a standstill. Now he knows what playing in these games is like.”

The victory moved Tigers into third place in the table, seven points behind Saints, with four games still to play. Leaders Saracens are a further seven ahead and have now confirmed a place in the semi-finals.

Tigers are on 58 points, with fourth-placed Bath on 55, Sale Sharks on 51 and Harlequins on 49.

Remaining Tigers fixtures are away to Harlequins on Good Friday, then home to London Wasps on Saturday, April 12 (3pm), away to Sale Sharks and finally home to Saracens on Saturday May 10 (3.15pm).

Tickets for both remaining home games are available from the Tigers ticket office now. Phone 0844 856 1880 or call in at Welford Road. The ticket office is open 8.30am-5pm weekdays, until 8pm Wednesdays and 9am-5pm Saturdays.

Or book online any time.

Matchday hospitality places are still available for home games. Phone 0116 2171 215 for details.
