Tigers try for England in France

Leicester Tigers Academy back-rower Charlie Beckett was among the try-scorers as England Under-18s recorded an 18-17 victory over France in Dunkirk.

Beckett started at No8 in the win at the Stadium du Littoral de Grade Synthe in northern France, with Tigers colleagues Charlie Thacker at centre and Joe Maksymiw at lock.

Scrum-half Rory Jennings was England’s other try-scorer.

Coach John Fletcher said: “Overall we’re really pleased with the performance. We didn’t quite reach the intensity we were at last week against Wales but it’s always a challenge playing France in their own back yard.

“It was another good test for us. We created more chances and dominated possession and territory, and deserved to get the win.

“We have started 26 players over the last two games and both Pete Walton and I are encouraged by the depth and quality of the squad. The academies continue to produce excellent players which is great for the English game.”
