We've got to keep going says Cockerill

Richard Cockerill warned Leicester Tigers "we're not there yet" as a bonus-point victory over London Wasps kept the team in third place in the Aviva Premiership table.

There are just three rounds to play, with Tigers to go to Harlequins and Sale Sharks as well as hosting league leaders Saracens.

A place in Europe’s new Rugby Champions Cup has been secured already, while Tigers are still hunting a top-four place which would secure Aviva Premiership semi-final qualification and with it a shot at a 10th successive Final appearance.

“We got the job done, we got the four tries and the five points, just about,” said director of rugby Cockerill after the 27-15 victory over Wasps at Welford Road on Saturday.

“It was pretty low-key performance from us but after last week in Clermont and against Northampton the week before, it’s been a pretty emotional and physical couple of weeks.

“There wasn’t much fluidity to the game, we were sloppy with the ball at times. But in the end just about good enough to get the five points and job done.

“We’ve now got just three games left, we need to get a semi-final spot, and we’re not there yet.”

A capacity 24,000 crowd celebrated tries from Manu Tuilagi (2), Vereniki Goneva and David Mele in the win over Wasps which took Tigers on to 63 points, three behind second-placed Northampton Saints. Bath are on 59, Harlequins 54 and Sale Sharks 51 in the chase for the play-off positions.

There was more good news for Tigers with Geoff Parling and Niall Morris returning from injury to play a part in the game.

“It was good to get the guys back out there,” said Cockerill after second-rower Parling made his first club appearance since October and Morris returned after two months on the sidelines.

The last home game of the regular season is against Saracens on Saturday, May 10 (3.15pm). Tickets are available now and in high demand.
