Awards Night sponsors back Scotty's charity

Scotty's Little Soldiers, a Leicester Tigers official club charity, had a very pleasant surprise at the supporters' Awards Night at Welford Road this week, courtesy of event sponsors DX.

The charity is dedicated to supporting the children of men and women killed while serving in the British Armed Forces.

Inspired by army widow Nikki Scott, it honours her husband Corporal Lee Scott's memory, and provides treats and activities for families of the fallen. Children receive letters, cards, gifts, tickets for events and even fees for sports events and activities, while the long-term goal is to buy three holiday homes in the UK for Scotty families.

Nikki Scott was among more than 500 guests at Tuesday’s Awards Night at Welford Road when Tigers supporters honoured their players of the year.

Tigers players Louis Deacon and George Chuter, whose testimonial years have included Scotty’s Little Soldiers among their charities, conducted a fund-raising raffle with prizes including a signed Tigers shirt and ball.

And the biggest contribution came from Awards Night sponsors DX who handed over a cheque for almost £60,000.

DX chief executive officer Petar Cvetkovic performed the presentation to Nikki Scott on the main stage after the company adopted Scotty’s as a corporate charity. The total of £59,709 was reached after the company matched the proceeds of fund-raising events organised by staff.

Nikki Scott said: “DX has provided a phenomenal level of support to us over the past year, support which has made a real and lasting difference.  To be presented with an amazing cheque at the Leicester Tiger awards dinner on Tuesday was incredible and will make such a huge difference to Scotty's Little Soldiers and the families it supports.

“DX have not only helped us by raising an amazing amount of money, but they have also helped us to raise awareness of our charity, provided event sponsorship and free delivery of marketing campaigns. I cannot thank them enough.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge heartfelt thank-you to all at Leicester Tigers, staff, players and fans for their continued and dedicated support over the last year. Thank you all so much."
