Williams called up for Wales trial match

Owen Williams has been included among the 52 players named for the Wales Senior Trial at the end of May.

The two 26-man squads will be captained by Alun Wyn Jones (Probables) and Matthew Rees (Possibles) as the sides stake a claim to tour South Africa with Wales this summer.

Leicester Tigers fly-half Williams is in the Possibles squad after an impressive first season in the Aviva Premiership.

In the forwards the uncapped players are Phil Price (Dragons), Rob Evans (Scarlets), Kristian Dacey, Macauley Cook (both Blues) and James Davies (Scarlets). Scarlets trio Gareth Davies, Jordan Williams and Steven Shingler are the uncapped backs alongside Ospreys’ Matthew Morgan and Leicester’s Williams.

Robin McBryde is coach of the Possibles and said: "It's an important opportunity to see these players in our environment, using our language and styles. The door is always open in international rugby and it will be good to see the squads for the week leading up to the game and in a game that has a lot of pressure attached as trials always do.”

Probables head coach Rob Howley, who played in the last Wales trial in 2000, is looking forward the contest.

"The trial is a great platform to see all of these players up close and allow them to pit themselves against each other,” he said.

"It takes us back to the traditional Wales trials of old and gives players and opportunity to put their hand up for the Wales jersey.

"It's also a vital game in our preparation ahead of the tour to South Africa. The vast majority of the squad wouldn't have had any game time after last weekend and this allows us to have a meaningful match.”

Tickets are on general safe from the box office at the Liberty Stadium and from the WRU Store on Westgate Street in Cardiff, priced £5 adults and £1 under-16s. Tickets can also be purchased online from http://www.liberty-stadium.com/tickets.php and are subject to a booking fee

Any profit from the game will be provided to the Welsh Rugby Charitable Trust.
