Catchpole added to Under-20s squad

Leicester Tigers centre George Catchpole has been added to the England Under-20 squad for the IRB Junior World Championship campaign in Auckland, New Zealand next month.

England have been forced into three changes due to injury, with Leicester hooker Harry Thacker among those affected.

Catchpole is called up alongside flanker Hayden Thompson-Stringer (Saracens) and hooker Cameron Neild (Sale Sharks) to replace Thacker, Jonny Hill (Gloucester) and Tom Fowlie (London Irish).

England kick off their title defence against Italy on June 2, before facing Australia on June 6 and then Argentina on June 10.

Head coach Nick Walshe said: “It’s massively disappointing for the three guys missing out, but it provides a fantastic opportunity for the three players coming in. The great thing about this side is that we have strength in depth and we have every confidence that this squad will perform well in the competition.”

Catchpole joins Tigers colleagues Harry Rudkin and Henry Purdy in the squad.
