The hurt of the Aviva Premiership semi-final defeat was eased for one young Leicester Tigers fan after Mathew Tait handed him his matchworn boots.

Tait picked out Alex Still, who was proudly wearing his Tigers colours among a sea of celebrating Northampton Saints supporters, and gave him his boots.

Tait also signed the footwear for 12-year-old Alex, who had travelled over to the game from Dublin with his Northampton-supporting dad Tony.

Alex said: “He came up and gave them to me. It was a huge surprise. I’m really grateful. It helps to soften the defeat a little bit.”

Dad Tony added: “I’ve been a big Saints fan for a long time but he likes Toby Flood and wanted to support Leicester Tigers.”
