A successful series of Welford Road Masterclasses have drawn to a close but young players can still improve their game on a Tigers Rugby Camp this summer.

Tigers favourites Craig Newby and Jeremy Staunton put hundreds of players through their paces in three Welford Road Masterclasses this half-term.

The former international pair provided guidance in attack, defence and kicking, showing young players the techniques they learned through their long and successful professional careers.

Newby and Staunton joined forces for the Welford Road Masterclass – Attack on Tuesday, Newby led the Welford Road Masterclass – Defence on Wednesday and Staunton returned on Thursday to take the Welford Road Masterclass – Kicking.

Staunton, the former Tigers and Ireland fly-half, said: “In the kicking session we looked at the techniques involved in kicking a ball, dropping a ball, how to get your body into the correct position and how to follow through.

“We looked at the different types of kicks, punt kicking, crossfield kicks, grubber kicks, restarts and had some fun with some kicking games on the way.”

Newby said: “We had a great bunch who listened and worked hard."

A full programme of Tigers Rugby Camps this summer kicks off with a first visit to Scotland.

The GHA Rugby Club in Glasgow will host the Tigers during the week of June 30-July 4, with five full days of coaching for young players aged up to 16 plus a tag rugby version for three half-days for younger players.

Loretto School in Musselburgh, East Lothian, acts as host during the following week (July 7-11) and will also have a tag rugby camp for younger players over three half-days.

The club’s community and Academy coaches are also running camps right across the Tigers region, including in Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and Warwickshire and in the Channel Islands at Guernsey and Jersey rugby clubs.

Tigers Rugby Camps are supported by energy efficiency experts Mark Group. Click here to find a camp near you and click here to book a place.

Places are still available on the residential Rugby Camp at Bishop Burton College.

The camp, which runs from August 18-22, provides an outstanding opportunity for young and ambitious players who want to develop their game and spend a week as an elite rugby player.

Tigers coaches run a full week of coaching focussed on skill, game understanding and long-term athlete development.

The college's Centre for Sport & Fitness is the focal point of their Sports Village which will host the Rugby Camp and accommodate the players. Facilities include a state-of-the-art fitness suite, 4G artificial turf pitch and outdoor grass pitches and sports hall.

During the camp, which is for players in under-13s to under-18s age groups, players can expect to be pushed to the limit and challenged at every opportunity. Tigers coaches will help young players progress and maximise their potential.

Players will be continually assessed and evaluated with player feedback provided at the end of the week.
