Scotty's Little Soldiers, an official charity of the Leicester Tigers, is celebrating after being named Military Charity of the Year.

The charity, which supports children whose parents have lost their lives serving in the Armed Forces, received the honour at Charity Today Charity Awards.

It recognised the charity’s work in supporting the children of the fallen, providing Christmas and birthday gifts, treats, trips and activities, as well as enabling them to use the charity’s holiday lodges.

The award, voted for the by the public, crowns a record-breaking year for Scotty’s Little Soldiers that has seen them raise almost £500,000, open a third holiday lodge and help many more families of the fallen.

Stuart Robinson, Scotty’s Little Soldiers chief executive, said: “We are thrilled to have been awarded the Charity Awards 'Military Charity of the Year'.  It's a great honour to have been nominated for the award with so many great charities supporting our British Forces personnel and their families and to have been voted the winners by the general public means so much to us.

“Hopefully the awareness raised by the awards will help more brave young children who have lost a parent in the Armed Forces know about Scotty's and how we can help them.”

Lee Rayment, chairman of the Charity Today Group, said: “The work that the charity conducts across the UK has a massive positive impact on the children of the fallen and their families and we are pleased to recognise them as our ‘Military Charity of the Year’ with this award.”

Scotty's Little Soldiers is an official charity of the Leicester Tigers this season, helping them to raise their profile and much-needed funds for their work with children of fallen servicemen and women.
