Daniel Phillips says he was stunned to win a limited edition, hand-stitched ball signed by some of the great names in Tigers history in a competition exclusive to the club's 125,000 Facebook followers.

Tigers launched the competition on the Official Leicester Tigers Facebook page to celebrate becoming the first Aviva Premiership club to reach 125,000 ‘likes’.

Up for grabs was one of only 125 leather Gilbert balls produced to commemorate Tigers’ 125th anniversary in 2005.

Individually numbered, the ball was signed by 15 Tigers greats, including World Cup-winning coach Sir Clive Woodward, World Cup-winning skipper Martin Johnson and world-record point-scorer Dusty Hare as well as England’s record try-scorer Rory Underwood and ex- England captains Martin Corry and Peter Wheeler.

The competition received a record number of entries and was won by Tigers fan Daniel, 31, of Coventry, who visited Welford Road this week to collect his prize.

Daniel, a winger with Coventry-based National League 3 Midlands side Broadstreet RFC, said: “I couldn’t believe it.

“It’s a great prize and I was shocked to win. I received texts from friends who support Tigers telling me that I’m a jammy so and so.”

The Official Leicester Tigers page is the place for Tigers fans on Facebook to come together and celebrate their support of the 10-time champions of English rugby.
