Premiership 7s leg switched to Darlington

The fourth leg of the Premiership Rugby Sevens, featuring Leicester Tigers, will be played at Darlington's Northern Echo Arena, it was announced today.

Kingston Park had been due to host Group D fixtures, which also involve Sale Sharks, London Welsh and hosts Newcastle Falcons, on Saturday, August 2.

However, work on a new 3G artificial rugby pitch at Newcastle's Kingston Park will not be finished in time for the event, however, the Falcons say it will be ready for the start of the Aviva Premiership season in September.

As a result, Newcastle today announced that the Group D games will be moved to the home of Darlington Mowden Park RFC, still taking place on Saturday, August 2 and kicking off at 7.15pm.

The top two teams from Group D will join the top two teams from the three other groups in the Series Final at the Twickenham Stoop on Friday, August 8.

Newcastle managing director Mick Hogan added: "The build process with our new 3G pitch has slipped slightly and over the weekend it has become clear that its completion could not be guaranteed by August 2.

“Rather than hurry the process that could result in shortcuts on the installation, we had no hesitation in proposing to Premiership Rugby that the event be moved to Darlington.”

Danny Brown, Darlington Mowden Park Arena manager, said: “We have a first class facility here and we can't wait to show it off to the thousands that will attend and the many more watching live on BT Sport.”

All tickets already purchased remain valid. Supporters who have purchased tickets but cannot now attend can claim a full refund.

Tickets are available priced £10 adults and concessions and £5 for under-16s on 0871 2266060, and from the Newcastle Falcons and Darlington Mowden Park ticket offices.
