Richard Mayne

Leicester Tigers are saddened by the tragic news of Richard Mayne and the loss of one of Leicestershire's rugby-playing family on the Malaysian Airlines flight.

Richard, 20, played at Market Bosworth RFC, where he was part of the club’s under-17s squad that won the RFU National Cup, and at Dixie Grammar School in Market Bosworth, where he was a member of the team that won the Independent Schools Association Under 18 National Rugby 7s in 2012.

He made more than 200 appearances in Market Bosworth colours, the last of which was at a charity tournament earlier this month, and attended a Tigers Rugby Camp held at the club.

Market Bosworth RFC chairman David Shakeshaft said: "Richard was a very talented rugby player and a gifted young man in so many ways. He was immensely liked throughout the club and had many close friends here.

"Passionate about his rugby he was looking forward to playing in Australia where he was heading to continue his studies. His last game for us was in a charity match, which was so typical of his good nature, he was so willing to participate and help wherever he could."

Our thoughts are with Richard’s family, friends and teammates at this most difficult time.
