Tigers salute Group Days Top Clubs

Nearly 30,000 supporters shared Welford Road matchdays as part of a Group Days Experience last season and now the Leicester Tigers plan to recognise some them in the first Group Days Top Clubs Awards.

Every matchday Tigers welcome groups from rugby clubs, schools and colleges, work and social groups, and supporters enjoying celebrations and special occasions, all sharing the unbeatable matchday experience of a 24,000-capacity stadium and top-class rugby.

“It’s great to see so many groups from all over the country coming to Welford Road to spend a day together watching the Tigers,” said Leicester Tigers head of brand Chris Rose.

“We have amazing support from groups all over the country and their feedback about how they’ve enjoyed their time with us reinforces our belief that the matchday experience at the Tigers is the best day out in rugby.

“We’ve created this Group Days Top Clubs Award to highlight and recognise the superb support we receive from so many groups throughout the year.”

Group Days include special rates for match tickets, the chance to share in the Tigers matchday experience as Guard of Honour, Shirt Shaker, Big Boot or as part of a Matchday Coaching Clinic. Or why not make Welford Road the focal point of a tour or other major event with your club?

Among the groups to be recognised in the inaugural awards are Bancroft RFC in Essex, Lancashire’s Vale of Lune RFC, Shrewsbury RFC in Shropshire and Ystradgynlais RFC from South Wales, showing the breadth of support for the club and the Group Bookings scheme.

There is also recognition for Staffordshire rugby clubs Burntwood, Tamworth and Lichfield; fellow Midlands clubs Long Eaton, Boston, Market Rasen & Louth, Scunthorpe and Spalding; and Leicestershire trio Coalville RFC, Market Harborough RFC and Vipers RFC from closer to home.

Citation for Group Bookings Awards

Bancroft RFC: Came from Essex to provide our biggest post-match Coaching Clinic of 2013/14 and looked like they loved every minute of it.
Boston RFC: A gem of a club, they hosted a successful Tigers Rugby Camp and loved it when they joined us for a Matchday Coaching Clinic at Christmas.
Burntwood RFC: Punching well above their weight, we were delighted to see virtually the whole club travel from Staffordshire to enjoy a club day with us at Welford Road.
Coalville RFC: A club that goes ‘above and beyond’ in their support for the Tigers and has enjoyed several big days at Welford Road.
Lichfield RFC: Hosts of the biggest Tigers Rugby Camps of the summer, this year they got even bigger and even better, as well as enjoying their club days at Tigers.
Long Eaton RFC: Big Tigers fans and great at activating their membership for days with us.
Market Harborough RFC: Hosts of Leicestershire’s biggest Tigers Rugby Camp, the strength of their numbers at the club is also reflected in the number that shared groups days with us.
Market Rasen & Louth RFC: Their Tigers Rugby Camp is always a sell-out and this year they filled the places quicker than ever.
Scunthorpe RFC: They guarantee big support for their Tigers group days out and have fun doing it.
Shrewsbury RFC: Shared in Coaching Clinics and Group Days during 2013/14, they always have good numbers supporting the Tigers.
Spalding RFC: Big supporters of the club who brought big numbers to share in a Post-Match Tigers Coaching Clinic during the season.
Tamworth RFC: Always provide a huge welcome for Prima Tiger Cup teams and are ever-present on Tigers matchdays and events.
Vale of Lune RFC: Tourists from Lancashire travelled with 120 young players and parents, watching a big game with us and then having their own big fixtures at a local club the following morning.
Vipers RFC: Always a pleasure to see the guys working so hard on their rugby and in support of charity, last season they did their version of Walk4Matt, walking to a Tigers fixture from their home ground to raise money for the Matt Hampson Foundation.
Ystradgynlais RFC: Our favourite Welshmen, renaming themselves ‘The Blue Tigers’ and unstinting in their support for ‘one of their own’ Owen Williams. Very enthusiastic additions to the Tigers Family.
