Tigers help to break the silence on SADS

Leicester Tigers were proud to show support for the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust, SADS Awareness Week and Heartsafe at Friday's game against Harlequins.

SADS Awareness Week has been created to mark the anniversary of the loss to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS) of 14-year-old Joe Humphries from Rothley who collapsed and died while out jogging in October 2012.

To mark this key milestone in the JHMT calendar, the Trust launched two powerful and informative posters to make more people aware of the dangers of SADS and these on display in surgeries, schools and other public venues. The medical poster has a particular emphasis on fainting, which is one of the key symptoms of a cardiac arrest.

Awareness Week provided an opportunity for the public to play a part by helping the Trust to ‘break the silence on SADS’  in memory of Joe and the 12 young people who are lost to the silent killer every week in the UK.

You can still show your support for the Trust by learning more about SADS and the symptoms to look out for. The Trust website has all the information and details of how you can be better prepared to save a life by learning CPR skills and how to use a defibrillator.

You can also join the Trust’s Facebook, Twitter and website followers, or join the Trust’s volunteers who help at local events and raise vital funds in JHMT’s fight to reduce the incidence of this group of heart conditions from claiming the lives of other young people.

At Friday’s match we also hosted a demonstration of CPR lifesaving skills conducted by Dr Doug Skehan and Heartsafe, a Leicestershire schools programme.
