Fly-half Owen Williams has been voted Most Promising Player by the Welsh Rugby Writers' Association.

Owen’s parents Linley and Rhianedd were present at the Rugby Writers’ annual dinner at Cardiff Rugby Club to receive the award on his behalf from former international referee Clive Norling.

Williams, 22, has made 32 appearances for Tigers since moving from the Scarlets in the summer of 2013, scoring almost 250 points, including his first try for the club in the European win over Ulster a fortnight ago.

He said: “It is a great honour to receive the award. I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me.

“I’m enjoying my rugby at Leicester and shared in some massive games with the club.”
