Richard Cockerill describes next week's Barbarians match at Welford Road as "a great opportunity" for players and supporters.

The Barbarians return to face Leicester Tigers at Welford Road on Tuesday evening (7.30pm) as part of their 125-year celebrations.

The famous invitational club provided the biggest fixture of the season Tigers for almost a century from 1909, bringing the biggest names in world rugby to Welford Road and playing in front of packed stands.

Tigers director of rugby Cockerill, who played in the fixture for a first time in 1992 in his debut season at Leicester, is anticipating a major rugby occasion on home turf.

“It is a huge fixture,” he said. “The Barbarians is a fantastic concept and a fantastic club, something we should all support.

“That is why we will be putting out our best available side against them and aiming to do the occasion justice. Our players are looking forward to it. You don’t get the opportunity very often to play in this kind of game on your club ground in your club shirt.

“The Baa-baas will bring a virtual international line-up to play against us and it is a great opportunity for supporters to see world-class players at our club ground and to support the Barbarians tradition.”

Tickets are available now at the Tigers ticket office, prices from £23 adults, £11 juniors. Buy in person at the Welford Road ticket office, phone 0116 319 8888 (option 2) or click here to book online. Please note this fixture is not included in Tigers season tickets.
