Christian Loamanu made his first Leicester Tigers start and scored his first try for the club against the Barbarians but says it was an honour just to play in the game.

Loamanu has been out with injury since making his debut as a replacement against Newcastle Falcons on the opening weekend of the season.

He returned to action for the friendly fixture against Barbarians, and capped his 40 minute return with a try.

And he said it was an honour to play in the game, particularly against a team coached by Sir John Kirwan, his former coach with the Japan national team.

“I really enjoyed playing,” said Loamanu. “It has been a while and it was good to be back playing again.

“A try against the Barbarians is nice. There was a lot of hard work from the guys in the breakdown and I managed to finish it.

“It was an honour to play against the Barbarians and against some of the best players from around the world.

“I know some of the Islanders boys, the Japan scrum-half (Fumiaki Tanaka), he was surprised I was here.

“I know John Kirwan from a long time ago from when he was in Japan. It was good to see him coaching the Barbarians. It was an honour to play.”
