The Leicester Tigers Wheelchair team have thanked fans for their support at their clash with West Coast Crash.

More than 300 fans attended the game at De Montfort University on Saturday and saw a thrilling exhibition, with the Crash eventually securing a hard-fought 45-37 victory.

Rob Tarr, coach of the Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team, said: “We would like to thank everyone for coming to watch the team play and hope the supporters can be inspired to follow our future progress.”

Tarr added: “We knew we were in for a big challenge as Crash recently took number one spot at our last Super Series.

“Crash scored the first goal from the tip off and the Tigers played catch up rugby from that moment on.

“Tigers rallied their way back in certain parts of the game but could just not capitalise on our valuable turn overs in the third quarter.

“A win would have been great, but it is a true reflection of where we are and what work we need to do to improve.”

Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: "We had exploding tyres, crashes, contact and more than 80 points, which meant the game flew by.

"At heart it’s just a great sport, and we hope the Tigers Family will come to love it as much as the first team.

"We’ve raised valuable funds to keep the team running and we hope we can fill out De Montfort University next time we hold a match."

The Tigers are back in action at the next Super Series event at Fenton Manor, Stoke-on-Trent on the weekend of February 20. More information on the Tigers Wheelchair Team and on wheelchair rugby is available at leicestertigers.com and at gbwr.org.uk
