Man of the match Owen Williams paid tribute to the whole Leicester Tigers team after Sunday's home win over Toulon in Pool 3 of the European Rugby Champions Cup.
Fly-half Williams kicked 20 points in the 25-21 triumph, including three vital penalties after Toulon had clawed their way into an 18-16 lead during the second half.
“I’m just pleased to get the win,” said 22-year-old Williams after accepting his Heineken man-of-the-match award at the final whistle.
“Toulon are such a good team and I thought our forwards dug in massively and I was so proud of them and really pleased for them.
“I’d say collectively we dug in. It was the prettiest of games, but I thought we dug in, we stayed tight as a unit and that’s all you can do against a side like Toulon, and we got the win in the end. We all worked hard for each other and that’s what won us the game.
“Toulon are a good team, they’ve got so many good players, and it’s so hard to break them down, but I can’t stress how much the team helped out, the forwards especially, and I thought our backs worked really hard and hustled and managed to force errors.”
Tigers go to Toulon for the return fixture on Saturday, with just five points separating all four teams at the halfway stage in Pool 3. Double European champions Toulon are top with nine points, followed by Tigers on eight, Ulster (6) and the Scarlets (4).
